Graywater pumps have a hard life.

Graywater can be acidic one session, and alkaline the next.  The water can contain long strands of hair and / or significant pieces of lint.

Often the pump will run only for a couple of minutes, and stop when it has finished pumping water from a shower, bath or laundry.

For these reasons only a quality pump built for dirty water should be used.

We include a Leader EcoVort (650 Watt) pump in each of our IrriGRAY systems.

This pump has the power to drive a large irrigation network (over 3,000 sq ft) and yet typically costs only $0.60 per month to run.

Making a great pump even better.

While automatic dirty water pumps are great for handling graywater, the standard float design requires a significant depth of graywater in the collection container for the pump to self activate.

Long float cables can also result in floats hanging / fouling, resulting in lost water or damage to the pump.

A common method to overcome this has been to remove the float, and use an electronic controller with water sensors to activate the pump.

We do not like electronic controllers.
In addition to adding cost, we have found electronic controllers and sensors to be unreliable in the long term, requiring considerable maintenance.

Our solution is simple. We modify* the float position by mounting the float lower on the pump, resulting in a much tighter on/off depth range. Perfect for the stop / start requirements of graywater irrigation.
